VERUCA IN CYNNER'S LAND
This is a project i've been working on for quite some time now, about 8 months ago to be exact- it was an idea that didn't exactly come into fruition yet as I wasn't quite sure exactly how to approach it. But as the months went by while I was focusing my energy into other projects, the vision somewhat gelled together. I've always been a fan of Alice In Wonderland and have always wanted to share my take on this wonderful story, so many things have been created, so many versions have been done of Alice In Wonderland...but nevertheless my strong desire to still venture into this overly saturated topic is burning very strongly.
I could say that this story of Alice to me, is interpreted in a deeper meaning and being someone who finds the world of surrealism a endless source of inspiration- I have finally churned out some concept design pieces of how I envisioned each character, and hope to create many more twisted versions other then what is already out there. To the loyal fans of Alice, I do not believe I will be following the storyline of the book closely- but rather enterpret loosely the essence of Alice, all the while incorporating my thoughts and imaginations on how the world of Wonderland could possibly be.
Below are the illustrations of how I have brought to existence my visions of how Alice in Wonderland is like, thus I call it Veruca In Cynner`s Land. Undoubtedly this is a much darker and twisted take of the original story.
The queen of Spades (not sure whether or not I should change this to Hearts, or both being as she rules the entire Wonderland I wouldn't be surprised if she was ruling secretly under another suit)Plus being all black and white might end up boring, so we will see. The skirt frill design where the legs are will be changed as I didn`t want it to come across as too much of a `Prom Dress` look, and so I adapted kimono type sleeve drape style instead. Photos of the kimono design on the will be out as soon as I have sewn the initial piece.
Yes for those who noticed, i've dressed my model in Yves Saint Laurent: Palais Mohawk suede pumps. They look so gorgeous with this design don't you think?? :) If I can somehow get hands on these for the shoot, it will be perfect.
I`ve chosen this stretch lace fabric to create the dress for the illustration above, it will be quite racy I admit- so either a form of leggings can be worn underneath, or some sort of strapless bra and high cut panty etc. Or simply do it bold, and wear it nude.
This is the start of my work progress in creating the actual garment. Technical patterns have been drafted out before finalizing and cutting the fabric.
Post to be continued! (Second part will show continuation onto cutting and sewing stage)
